The Constitution Of MysteryAndMagic.com
rev. 25 October 2003, 15 October 2004
I. Mission Statement
A. Whereas we believe:
1 - that freeform roleplaying, as defined in our game rules, greatly rewards participants' investment of time and energy
2 - that MysteryAndMagic.com -- because we are foremost a cooperative, player-oriented community -- provides a better forum to serve individual writers and freeform roleplayers than do other similar forums
B. Therefore, having been gifted this domain, for such a purpose, by our founder, we resolve:
1 - to allow players to participate in our games at no charge (free!)
2 - to maintain a diverse body of freeform roleplaying games and related entities
3 - to keep foremost in our minds, within the scope and protection and maintenance of our game worlds, the needs and desires of the players
4 - to manage the resulting community with objectivity, common-sense logic, and fairness, not holding ourselves immune to review and constructive criticism, but receiving every valuable comment with a mind toward the improvement of the domain and its games and other entities
II. Players' Charter
A. Every player may:
1 - participate in any active game, free of charge, upon his application being approved by the game's moderator(s) (no "closed games")
2 - keep total control of his character, as long as the game is open, per the protections designated under the rules, free of unjust interference by moderators or other players (however see IV.B.)
3 - bring concerns and complaints about his fellow players to the gamemaster, without recrimination, anonymously if desired, and in full expectation of a fair and complete resolution of the issue (with the understanding that the resolution might not be the one desired by the player)
4 - similarly bring concerns and complaints about a game that the GM is unable to resolve, or about the website in general, to the MysteryAndMagic.com webmaster.
B. Every player must:
1 - promote the harmony and fellowship of his co-players (i.e., player-to-player, not in-character)
2 - balance his character's strengths, actions, and progress, by including suitable weaknesses, limitations, hindrances, setbacks, and foibles, not only in his character definition but also in his roleplaying
3 - abide by the games' posted rules, both in letter and in spirit
4 - carry his weight within his character's story -- including posting regularly, responding appropriately to the other characters and to the general situation, and providing creative new elements beneficial to the balanced and believable advancement of the story
5 - not allow anyone else to post using his password; every participant in game must earn access through the game's application procedure
III. GameMasters' Charter
A. Every GM may:
1 - define his game setting in whatsoever way he deems fit, according to the limitations of this Constitution, especially re the foremost goal of serving the player community
2 - allow or deny any player's participation in the game, based initially upon the character application, and thereafter upon the player's conduct within the game
B. Every GM must:
1 - keep in the forefront of his attitude, the concept that his game exists solely for the players, rather than the fulfillment of his own vision and desires
2 - attend quickly, without recrimination, to concerns and complaints about players or the game; and do everything reasonable to resolve the issue fairly for all concerned parties
3 - maintain the functionality of his website, re rules, setting, milieu, systematic operations, etc.
4 - provide (by self or proxy) whatever roleplaying mentoring and support his players need, within practicality
5 - process player applications in a timely manner (usually no more than one week)
6 - include, in any denial of an application, reasons for the denial
7 - advertise and promote his game to draw in new players
IV. Ownership of Games & Characters
A. If a game's GM/creator resigns, it will remain the decision of the webmaster whether to close the game or to replace the GM with a capable candidate. The desires of the player population within the game will carry weight within the decision, but so also will the desire of the GM and the practicalties of game maintenance.
B. If a player abandons his character, a GM may take over that character, either to keep him in the game or to write him out of play. If a player wishes to stop writing for his character, but does not want the character taken over, he must write his character out of play, either permanently or in such a fashion as to make it clear that the character might be reactivated later.
C. Re ownership of game content, please refer to the Terms Of Use, Disclaimer, And Privacy Policy.
